Hi, I’m Murphy Wei, a product designer with 2+ years of experience in tech, spanning Gen AI and SaaS platforms.
I’m a Product Design Intern at Yirental, where I design the conversational interface for the AI
agent in HostGenix, a property-management SaaS, along with the points where operators review what
the AI produces. I build those designs directly in the React codebase.
My goal is to close the gap between what Gen AI can do and who actually gets to use it, by
designing products that feel obvious to people with no technical background at all.
Current Focus
I’m finishing a Master’s in Technology Innovation at the University of Washington, graduating in March 2027. Most of my work now is on AI products: how people talk to an AI agent, when they should check its output, and what makes that feel trustworthy. I prototype in code, so those ideas get tested against real behavior early.
AI Workflow
I use AI to get from an idea to something people can actually click, faster. I stay the one deciding what is worth building.
Build in code.
I design directly in the codebase. At Yirental I ship features into React with Claude Code, and a design only counts once it passes the full suite of about 2,000 tests.
Explore in parallel.
When a screen has more than one good answer, I build several directions in code and compare them working. The AI assistant home page at Yirental started as four live layouts.
Learn by making.
I learn fastest by shipping something real. I'm taking AI Product Foundations alongside my master's, and most of what I know about AI products came from building them.
How I use AI
- Research a new domain with Claude before I start designing for it
- Turn interview transcripts into themes and pain points with Claude
- Connect AI to Mobbin through MCP to pull real app patterns while I design
- Build and ship UI features in React with Claude Code
- Prototype several layout directions in code, then compare them side by side
- Try Muse and Grok for the small everyday tasks
- Build personal projects end to end with Cursor, Lovable and Claude
